I have been taking 5mgs of Zyprexa since 1997 and I have been very stable. I am able to work as a software developer, go to school and exercise regularly.
Now after reading about all the disabling side affects of Zyprexa I want to stop taking it. I am wondering if I will develop NMS (Neuroleptic Malingant Syndrom or TD (Tardive Dyskinesia). I've already had a biopsy of my breast because of nipple bleeding and I will be having another sonogram soon. Now I have read that Zyprexa causes breast cancer and I am wondering if the nipple bleeding is from the Zyprexa.
I have stopped seeing my psychiatrist because I feel his practices are unethical. My medical doctor is helping me to tapper the Zyprexa and Neurontin.

I developed tardive dyskinesia 2 weeks after withdrawal from zyprexa. I had been on it for 5 years. I'm not sure if the cause was from sudden withdrawal of from taking it for 5 years. Be CAREFUL.

Hey I am joining the club for information. I really feel hesitant to sue and I feel that this state and this doctor is not at fault. It was a dr. in another state. But I had an elevated liver enzymes on zyprexa maybe 6 months. they watched me carefully but I fear I may have developed diabetes on this drug, Also I was on Prozacfor 25 years......eeeeesh.
and then rudely and abruptly put on Paxil which I still take since about 1995. I am messed up for nerves and everything else. Feel like I am thought less of as person for trying to get help.

Hi! I have just stopped taking zyprexa. I was taking 5 mg for the longest time, then went up to 10 for a short time and reduced back to 5 mg. Then when I decided not to see the psych doctor any longer, I cut the zyprexa and used 2.5 mg daily for several months. When I finally went to my regular internal medicine doctor, my weight was way up and I asked him why and he said zyprexa. He said some of his patients are now on zyprexa who are elderly and need to gain some weight. I told him this weight is hindering my pain fighting efforts and I need to lose it as soon as possible so he told me to stop taking zyprexa and come back in 6 weeks so he can see how stopping it has effected my moods. I go into some really severe mood swings but I do not think I want to be medicated again. The cost of most antidepressants is high and I am not covered for brand name med on my insurance so I think going without is the best situation for me. I am leery of mood drugs and I plan on asking him for a glucose tolerance test and anything else that might indicate changes in the blood sugar. I was tested for diabetes last year and did not have any signs of it, but who knows what is going on now. Had I known what zyprexa would do, I would have refused it. I never was dx'ed with anything more than major depression yet zyprexa was the drug of choice for me, why? I guess because of the side effects of the other meds I tried to take. Maybe I should just suffer without any meds at least then there will be no side effects. Wondering what the right answer is in all of this. I say get off zyprexa as soon as you can, tapering off it, not cold turkey. I wish you lots of luck with this.

i was put on zyprexa, i belive in january, for anxiety(major history of eating disorders) i only took this medication for month and this is why: when someone sleeps for 11pm-8am and then again from 9am-4pm. this is not normal. i basically did this for the whole month i was on it. i wasn't very hungry either, but extremly thirsty, i am not normally a soda person, except for when being sick, and i would probably go through at least a 12pack of sodas per day. now, when i removed myself from the pill, i was constantly having numbness in my hands and feet for weeks. ialso would have the most real, horrific nightmares i have ever experienced in my life. i am 20 years old and have a child of my own, almost 4. i am not a child, but i surely had to call my mommy and daddy several times in the middle of the night, becuase of these extreme nightmares. i think these symptoms finally went away after bout a month. if u get off of this medication, be prepared

I have tried to get off zyprexa 2 times. If I dont take the drug,, I dont sleep. I mean it goes on for months like that and I have to go on zyprexa again to sleep. Without it I am a walking death. Dont know what to do I only have a 3 month supply left of samples and I cant afford the drug (no med plan) This drug is evil and changes your brain chem for good it seems. has anyone else experienced this withdraw affect? please advise...
