Oxycontin addiction

I feel that there is a huge problem with oxycontin addiction and the fact that it seems that everything is covered up. How often do you hear anything about them unless they personally affect you. I had no ideal what they were until recently. My daughter has been abusing oxys for about five years. When she started abusing them she was living with me and my husband and I saw her snorting a crushed up pill. I didn't realize what she was doing. I thought it was just some teenage fad. She had dumped all her friends who were doing heroin. I was happy that she wasn't into heroin. The next few years were a living hell. She often became violent and was just miserable to be around. Finally in June my husband told me he was addicted and needed help. Come to find out he had been doing them with her for almost two years. After he told me this I started looking into what they were all about. My husband went through severe depression during withdrawal and even attempted suicide by taking an overdose of sleeping pills. He's finally doing better after getting help and taking an antidepressant and vitamins. My daughter on the other hand is a mess. I don't think she'll even live another two years unless things change and she gets help which she doesn't think she needs. I believe if there was more information on oxycontin that some of these people wouldn't start using them. I don't think my daughter would have ever gotten into them if she knew they were synthetic heroin. I know that my husband didn't know what he was getting into and before he knew it was addicted and his whole life revolved around where he was going to get his next pill. All my daughters friends are addicts. It blows my mind the number of people abusing this drug. Something needs to be done to inform the public the dangers of this drug.
