Vioxx and Swelling

My husband was taking Vioxx about a year ago, for RA, but was taken off due to major swelling, not only in the joints, but pretty much all-over. The doc says it only happens to one in a million.. just wondering if anyone else has had the same problem, and to warn people to watch for swelling while taking it..

Re: Vioxx and Swelling

Swelling is a major side effect.  Ask Derrick Nix, a college football player who was going pro until he hurt his ankle and took vioxx for the pain and swelling.  He gained over 50 lbs due to water retention and his family and friends made a comment to him about his weight.  Derrick had to have a kidney transplant from his brother this year.  The vioxx caused his kidneys to fail.  The same problem that Sean Elliot of the San Antonio Spurs had after years of NSAID's use.  I am here to tell you that vioxx is very dangerous.  I took Vioxx for 8 days, on the 6th and 7th day I had severe leg swelling, kidney inflammation and slight weight gain.  On the 8th day I had a seizure.  I was rushed by ambulance to the hospital where I almost died.  I stayed a week in the hospital and I am not longer able to work due to a brain bleed.  I advise to anyone to stop taking vioxx right away.  Swelling in any part of the body is due to your kidneys not filtering properly.  Any kidney conditions are very hard sometimes showing no symptoms at all until it is too late.  I am looking for a lawyer to handle a lawsuit against Merck but even Parker and Waichman have refused my case because they are only interested in cased involving heart attack, stroke and blood clotting.
