Hemorrhage

When I had my son, who is now 2 1/2 years old, I had to be re-hospitalized due to severe hemorrhaging.  The amount of blood was unbelievable.  I was terrified.  Also, it was horrible being away from my new baby.  My labor, which was excruciating, was induced using Cytotec because I was past my due date.
I am terrified that this will happen again with my second child who is due next month.  I've heard that Cytotec can cause bleeding problems.  Is this what happened or was it me?  Has anyone had another child after having problems with Cytotec?  Please let me know what happened.

Re: Hemorrhage

Hi,
I am writing to you as a labor and delivery nurse. I hope by now you have had your second baby and that everything went well and it was a better experience for you. I am writing because I am really interested in this topic of cytotec vs. FDA approved drugs like cervidil. I work for a hospital which is private but Kaiser also is in the hospital.  I have worked for Kaiser in the past and they routinely use cytotec for inducing labor and it isn't FDA approved. It is used for ulcers.  Cytotec is cheaper than cervidil, which can be pulled from the vagina as to not cause uterine hyperstimulation. I am curious how hospitals can get away with using a non approved drug especially since when patients are not consented or made aware of the fact that cytotec is not approved.

Re: Hemorrhage

I would suggest you go the Medline web site and put in key words relating to your problem.  You should be able to find abstracts to articles which can help you:

Good luck, Harold Boxenbaum, Ph.D.

P.S. Also do a google search with key words including patient package insert
