Neurontin, which is known generically as Gabapentin, may be linked to suicide and suicide attempts. Neurontin is prescribed for epilepsy but has been prescribed for numerous off label uses. Neurontin was approved for sale in the mid-1990s as a treatment for epileptic seizures. However, it is believed that approximately 80 percent of all Neurontin prescriptions were filled for unapproved medical conditions.

If you or a loved one was injured by Neurontin, please complete the free case inquiry form on the right side of this page.

Decreasing Neurontin dosages

Decreasing your Neurontin dosage is not an easy thing to do. My advice is to the guest who has been on  it for epilepsy is tough because it was FDA approved for this pain and postherpetic neuralgia in adults--ie--shingles. I called Pfizer corp and they sent me a 25 page  on neurontin dated Sept 2003. It's easy to change the date on anything for them to cover their behind. Under the precautions section it says for sujects over 12 years of age "It may cause dizziness, somnolence and other signs of CNS depression." CNS means central nervous system. I have RSD which the CNS is very active in this disease as along with alot of other neurological disorders. It also means low blood sugar. I encourage anyone taking this drug to call Pfizer at 1-800-707-8990 and ask for the 25 page side effect sheet. They tried to tell me the Pharmacy should give you a print out and I told them it was a 1/2 page long. It's very informative. I started decreasing my 600 mg 3x aday by the first week I cut out the mid dosage every other day. The 2nd week I cut it out completely. The 3rd week I cut out the morning dose every other day the 4th week completely and so forth until I finally quit. I hope this info helps.
