 I lost my right leg January 2004 I was put on neurontin and been on it since I have suffered with more depression than ever I'm always in a zone not thinking straight it takes care of the faintame pain but it makes me feel so tired I'm up all nite. I stop taking the med. And my doctor told me to go back on it and that I have to be wing off of it. After reading the side effects now I'm really stopping this med. I'm 26 years old and should be out living life but instead I just stay in the house.
Hi Sylvia and welcome to this site. I'm so sorry to hear about your leg. Was it from an auto or work accident? Are you on any other meds? Your doctor is right about weaning off it. Did they put you on it for nerve pain or what is faintame pain? Neurontin is a nasty drug and yes will cause depression and insomnia. Becareful about other anti-depressents too. Some are really bad. There are other forums at this site, and Effexor sounds horrible. I hope you have a good support system of family and friends. You can write to me any time if you need to talk. But be careful about what drug they're gonna put you on to replace the neurontin. Good luck and take care and let us know how things go. Aloha Skooze

No I lost my leg to chronic infections I was dianose in my early teens with bone cancer and I had total knee and femur replacement and the med. Was for fanitame pain. Sometime I think that the doctor should of amputated my leg when I was 13 instead of 26 I had limitation to things one was that I couldn't bend my leg all those years and another was surgery after surgery it was very sad I was so young going threw that and I didn't get any couseling. Children's hospital feel to do there job. Maybe that would of help with some of the depression?
I think the reference is to"phantom pain" .. . How effective is this drug in quieting nerve pain or phantom pain? Any relief?
I myself am also an amputee and have been perscribed Neurontin today and am very worried about taking this, have you had any releif and have you expirenced any side effects? in your personal opinion is/does this work? (yes for Phantom Pain)
Kind Regards, Richard
