Neurontin, which is known generically as Gabapentin, may be linked to suicide and suicide attempts. Neurontin is prescribed for epilepsy but has been prescribed for numerous off label uses. Neurontin was approved for sale in the mid-1990s as a treatment for epileptic seizures. However, it is believed that approximately 80 percent of all Neurontin prescriptions were filled for unapproved medical conditions.

Handicap son taking neurontin for lower back ache

My handicap son was given neurontin about 3yrs ago. At the time I questioned the Dr at crotched Mt where my son was at the time. He said it was to help relieve his back pain. I did not like the Idea of my son taking a drug for seizures since he had never had one before. Well finally about 2yrs after he started to take the drug did my son finally get a Dr. That thought the same as me. So my son who is severely retarded has autistic tendencies and scoliocis etc. He had to be weaned off the drug slowly. Anyway once he was off for a while we really didn't notice any difference in my son. He actually seems to be in less pain if you ask me. Who knows what the drug did to his body. I hope it didn't do any damage to his kidneys or liver but how would we know? I am glad he doesn't take the drug anymore I only hope there won't be any side effects to come.
