problems with enbrel

I'm posting these Q's on behalf of my Mum, seeing that she's not up with computers.
Quick history.
She's 64, has had RA since she's about 35 (that's when it was diagnosed!).
She's been through the entire range of medication all with there own set of bad side effects.
She's had a very bad run over the last 25 years. Knee & hip replacement, ankle fusion, all toes pinned and straighten (some came out worse).
She was on arava recently (spelling?) now she's started taking Enbrel in combination with the arava.
Like night and day she says, it's been the best thing since sliced bread for her, up until now!
It's been 6 weeks. After her last blood test she was told that her white blood cell count is dangerously low. Doc told her to stop taking all meds, don't go out in public and have another blood test in 2 weeks. She has an appointment for next monday now to see the specialist and to see where the WBC is at.
She'll be devastated if she can't continue with the enbrel.

Has anyone had this problem with the White Blood Cell count and how did they end up?
Any comments on taking Enbrel in combination with Arava?

We're in Australia and Enbrel has only just been made available over here.

My best wishes go out to all of you who suffer from it and those who have loved ones with it. Only we know how bad it is.

Re: problems with enbrel

Dogart,

I took enbrel with arava for over a year with no side effects, however enbrel never really did anything wonderful for me.  I am on humira with celebrex.  Seems to be working ok.
