Re: question

Did you know that Baycol could cause kidney disease?  It can.  Were you ever tested for kidney problems after you stopped taking Baycol?  You should be, especially since some of the symptoms you describe could be related to kidney disease.  Call you doctor !!!  Good luck.

Re: question

I don't think I have been tested. I have a new Dr. now and I'm going to Iowa City Hospital or Mayo Clinic after my next appointment. Hopefully they can help me. What tests are done to test kidneys?

I was on Baychol for 2 years until it was recalled. My Dr. Didn't prescribe it at first but it was the only one my insurance would pay for so he finally agreed to give it to me. I quit the day the story broke on the news. A week later my Dr. called to tell me to quit taking it and come back so he could prescribe something else. I had suffered muscle weakness and pain for months but did not link the 2 for a while. I suffered a leg and hip injury because my leg buckled on me. Now I suffer from cramps, weakness and high blood pressure. I have such soreness in my arms and legs that I can't hardly do yard work. I'm 54 but in good shape otherwise and should be able to do more. I walk 2 miles a day and keep my weight fairly well in control. 6' 200 lbs. I seem to get steadily worse even though I quit taking Baychol ages ago. I don't really know if it's the Baychol or just old age.

Re: question

jl , I was walking 4 to 5 miles a day when I started taking Baycol. Now I can't walk over 2 or 3 blocks, have great difficultly walking up or down stairs. Any type of activity wears me out and my muscles hurt (extremely) and burn. What I miss the most is work (I haven't worked for 3 months) and taking my grandkids fishing. My original Dr. and a rhumotolist (don't know if that's spelled right) diagnosed me with fibromalagia! What a joke. Hopefully Iowa City or Mayo  can fix me or at least make life bearable.

Re: question

Toba - I don't know if these are the correct names, but I think they do a test called a kidney function test which determines if your kidneys are functioning at 100%, 90%, 80%, etc.  Also, I guess they do urine tests too.  I hope they figure out whatever it is that is wrong with you.  I've heard of fibromyalgia -- isn't it pain in different parts of the body that they can't put a name on.  My neighbor has it (but I have to admit she claims to have a lot of things, but always looks fine and can do the things SHE LIKES to do) and she takes all sorts of medication for it.  Hope you get some answers and solutions!

Re: question

judyteach, I think Fibro is something they say you have when they can't figure out what's wrong or don't want to admit what's wrong. My pain is all over now but more in my lower back and the back of my legs. I get "charlie horses" real easy and they stay for a while. I have never had a Kidney Function Test. Twice Baycol made me sick to where I quit taking it but my  Dr. put me back on it.

Re: question

I too took Baycol for a year. After 3 months I could not walk around the warehouse where I am employed. I was only 48 6' 170 lbs. and in formerly good health. Recent CT scan showed lesions on liver, one kidney not functioning properly and I limp, even AFTER a recent operation to replace the femoral artery in the leg I limp on. I live in a small town in the Mojave Desert. All the MD's stick together and deny, deny deny ! There is'nt a damn one of them that will admit they screwed up. I too have heard the "fibromyalgia BS". However I am now manifesting so many problems it's getting REAL hard for them to deny it now. Funny how Bayer Corp. is in the news saying that there were "only a few people affected by this drug" Yeah right !! Good luck to all of you, I'm kind of at my wit's end.........

Re: question

Dear BRL 77:

Have you contacted a lawyer? I found this bulletin board through the attorneys who administer it after I called them about a case I thought I had.  They are really nice when you call them.  Use the link on this board to go to their site www.yourlawyer.com.  Bayer should pay up for the mess they've made of people's lives.  Hope it all works out for you.

Best, Judy

Re: question

Yes, I have contacted these very same nice folks who host this website. I am hoping they can do something, perhaps at least get me some answers. SO MANY law firms, (when this Baycol stuff first got started) talked all big and bad, but turned "chicken", when dealing with the Bayer Corp. We will see how this law firm deals with this. All the best to you.

Re: question

This firm did not help my mother, they hardly returned phone calls re this issue w- Baycol. There was a ruling my mom told me in Pennsylvania that they acknowledged muscle deteriation from Statins.
When she called Law firms they say she needs info from the DR's that there are problems. The Dr's don't want to acknowledge cause of the lawsuit they don't want in dealing with their reputation with the medical industry. All test she had so far come back negative- but they are not doing all the tests they should.
There is a study being done as well at the University of San Diego.
If any one know a DR in New York - Long Island that can help
Please post so I can help my mom
