I am looking for answers. My dad had 3 remicade infusions. He has developed serious blood issues. his body has stopped producing blood. He has had to have 6 transfusions in the last 5 months. We can't get a doctor to admit that this is a result of the remicade. He was using this drug with methotrexate for his rhuematoid arthritis. He is no longer on remicade but is still not producing blood. The doctors cant tell us anything. I want to know if anyone else has had these symptoms and if it can be fixed.
Thank You

Hi Christi~
Got your PM so I came straight here. Thanks about my Mom. No one should have to go through that, but it sounds like you are going through something VERY similar with your Dad.
Seems to me once the blood is involved it's all downhill. Sorry if that seems blunt, but there's no getting around it. Thinking back, it was the lungs first; then the blood with my Mom.
Is he in the hospital right now? And if he is still getting the infusions, make him stop. I don't know if it will do any good...you can only wait and see. We never had anyone admit that it could have been the Remicade being the culprit that killed my Mom.
We also tried contacting a firm that suggested there might be some sort of lawsuit against the makers of Remicade, but we were turned down saying they couldn't take the case. I can't remember the reason, all I remember was thinking how stupid they were. And just to see, I just tried the website again...it no longer exists (remicadealert.com). Figures. After doing a search, I think they may have declined because they were a law firm on the East Coast (I'm on the West).
I did find another site: http://www.ennislaw.com/remicade.html. They are also on the East Coast.
According to their site the "black box warning" for Remicade was put in place on August 15, 2001. My Mom died on August 11th. And one of the crappy things is that when she first went into the hospital in July 2001, the FIRST thing they checked her for was TB!!!
Whatever happens...be with your Dad as much as you can because once he's gone, it's for good. Let me know how things are going...okay?

Hi Jewl. Thanks for getting back to me. My dad is not in the hospital right now and has stopped getting infusions. He has to go for Iron shots and Procrit 3 times a week. The procrit is supposed to stimulate his bone marrow into producing blood. So far it is not working. I am spending alot of time with him and talking to him all the time on the phone. It is very scary stuff. It seems that theres always a drug to correct the problem that another drug caused and that drug has a whole list of serious side effects of it's own. It's making me crazy. Thank you for your reply. I'll keep you posted.
