Astra Zeneca’s popular schizophrenia drug Seroquel has been linked with a high incidence of diabetes, hyperglycemia and other blood sugar disorders. Seroquel is in the class of drugs called atypical antipsychotics, which are a newer class of antipsychotics touted as having a lower incidence of blood sugar disorders than the older medications such as Haldol and Thorazine. Seroquel was approved by the FDA in 1997.

Data from a study that was reported at a conference of the International Society for Pharmacoepidemiology in Philadelphia August 23 and 24, 2003 showed that patients on Seroquel had 3.34 times as many cases of diabetes as those on older antipsychotic drugs. The study of 19,878 U.S. military veterans between October 1998 and October 2001 indicated that Seroquel and other members of the new class of anti-psychotic drugs posed a higher risk of diabetes. The effect was most pronounced with Seroquel.

Lexapro and Ambien

I have recently lost my father to what on the surface appears to be a suicide. My father was not suicidal yet he continued to complain more and more of sleeping disorders and all after being issued both Ambien, and ultimately (just prior to suicide) it along with Lexapro. Same doctor also provided both. A couple months supply of Lexapro samples were given to him after a 30 day supply of Ambien. This appears to be a lethal combination. If anyone can offer any information about these two I would appreciate the information and assistance.

I have started seeing the problems and cases online of kids under 18 being issued Lexapro but what about adults? This is obviously a very tough time for me but at least it appears that something may finally be making some sense of why my father did such a thing. Is there anyone else who has experienced an issue with one or both of these drugs and adults cases.

Thanks.
