Neurontin, which is known generically as Gabapentin, may be linked to suicide and suicide attempts. Neurontin is prescribed for epilepsy but has been prescribed for numerous off label uses. Neurontin was approved for sale in the mid-1990s as a treatment for epileptic seizures. However, it is believed that approximately 80 percent of all Neurontin prescriptions were filled for unapproved medical conditions.

If you or a loved one was injured by Neurontin, please complete the free case inquiry form on the right side of this page.

Neurontin Side Effects

I was put on (Gabapentin) which is the generic for Neurontin.  I was taking around 1200mg a day.  Neurontin was prescribed to me after my second back surgery within 7 months.  The doctor though it would help with leg pain.  Into my second month I started getting a racing heart with pain in my chest.  It only happened at night.  The pain in my chest was so sever I though I was dying.  It woke me up several nights out of a sound sleep.  My heart felt like it was beating double time and I swear I could hear it beating. While on other medications for the pain in my leg and back, this was the newest medication I was on.  My doctor didn't seem to think there was a connection.   After talking to the pharmicist, she told me to get off of the Neurontin generic.  She told me that she had heard of other people complaining of this side effect.  I never took this medication again and I have never had that pounding, racing, painful heart again?  Has anyone else had this experience?  Could I have long term heart damage from this drug?
