Re: symptoms

My husband has been on this drug since 1999. He has been complaining alot lately of abdominal pain and discomfort.

He is very thirsty all the time, has experienced loss of appetite and nausea as well. And for all the fluids that he drinks his urine can be quite dark at times.

Where should we go from here? This is really scaring me as he takes and has taken quite a HUGE dosage since June 1999.

Re: symptoms

My mother took this same drug for 2 1/2 years. She has lower back pain. i know that she called a attorney that was advertising on TV yesterday. They asked her a bunch of questions. The lady mentioned something about a classaction to my mother. I was thinking...ohhh no. i guess there must be some available info out there on this drug can someone steer me in the right direction. I am not sure my mother should use this lawfirm.I have no idea if they are reputable or anything. How can i find out something on them AS WELL?

Re: symptoms

I don't know...but I waited several days to see if htere was any response to my post about my husband. I thought htis would be moderated if not by attorneys then at least paralegals who could give us some direction.

In the State of Texas you can view if there have been any complaints filed against attorneys at a certain website. I can not think of the link right now..but I'm sure if you did like a www.google.com search you could come up with something.

You have to be very careful in choosing an attorney. Unfortunately there are those out there that only care about THEIR bottom line and your's be damned....

Re: symptoms

After I was hospitalized (after a suicide attempt), my psychaitrist switched me from Effexor XR to Serzone, hoping to alleviate the manic episodes I had.  I've been diagnosed as having depression with an anxiety disorder.  Since I've been off of the Effexor, my anxiety has gone out of control.  After reading all this about Serzone, it's making me wonder if this is really what I should be taking.  I am a 21 year old, healthy female.  I guess I just don't want to be an unhealthy 21 year old female.  Any suggestions?  I've been on this since February.  I've had a few symptoms like abdominal pain, chronic headaches, lower back pain, really low blood pressure (I had good/lower blood pressure, but it's getting bad), eye sight going funny... I don't know.  I see my psychaitrist on Friday... hopefully I'll have some answers at that time.

Re: symptoms

My nightnmare started with allowing a GP Dr. to prescribe Paxil for a short term bout with stress related depression and upset stomach. I have been unable to stop taking anti depressants for longer than about 6 months (after a several month taper down process) and that was 8 years ago. Serzone was one they threw at me after I rejected Paxil's side effects but frankly much of my life while I was taking the meds is a blur so I can't remember much except that I was all over the place. Happy, sad, angry -all emotions amplified.

I do remember switching from Paxil to Serzone once and passing out while walking out of a c-store one morning which resulted in stitches over my eye.  No medical professional EVER knew a damn thing about the medication's affects.

They told me I could stop taking this junk whenever I wanted. After a few months of side effects I tried to stop and have been trying ever since. These medicines can tear down an otherwise healthy person in a very short time. The withdrawls are another story. I used to be a normal, productive professional.  Now evertyhing is a struggle and I am without health insurance. If something doesn't happen soon I'm afraid I'll likely be on the evening news as the latest freak to go postal.

If you take these meds they very well may cost you your happiness, career, relationships, health and future.

Re: symptoms

My wife has been treated for major depression, even treated with a course of ECTs. She still has panic attacks, which started when she was switched from Prozac-Zyprexa to Wellbutrin-Abilify, in late July. Before the ECTs, her doctor switched her to Serzone, Trazodone, Abilify. At night she was taking Klonopin, which was switched to Ativan while she took the ECTs.

She was never told of the ECTs memory side effects. She has them. Has forgotten things from way in the past, and her lack of focus, concentration, and lethargy after the ECTs have stayed, not gone away.

I recently read - will try to locate the web page later - that Serzone has been stopped in Europe for liver damage.

Zyprexa used to give her EPS. I just begged her to go off Abilify - she was only taking 7.5 mg - to see if her Akathisia and dyskenesia symptoms would go away, because the doctor has not diagnosed them as such, and yet, they're very evident.

The psychopharmacologists can't diagnose anything in fifteen or twenty minutes, and if you don't ask, they don't even bother to call for your previous records, medical hystory, or any treatment/diagnoses from psychologists.

Psychofarmacology is not Psychiatry, even if these people call themselves the latter. In fifteen minutes, they're hurried to take the next patient, tell you of no side effects, and altogether screw you up by chasing symptoms with medications whose effect doesn't last beyond four or six months, and whose impact is harmful to the Central Nervous Symptom.

My wife has been taking Klonopin for over five years, though miinor doses. Now she has been increased to 5 mg per day even if she's sixty three. Klonopin, Ativan, and Xanax are notoriously addictive drugs for short term use only, and yet these doctors have no compunctions about prescribing them in higher and higher doses and, I guess, forever if that helps them get rid of a symptom for one or two hours.

It's very sad.

I hope my wife will get rid of the panic attacks, akathisia, and dyskinesia after she's off the Abilify for a few days. The ECT doctor tried to get her back on Zyprexa - same side effects except she was half asleep all day long - and I had to impose on her not to.

Nickm

Re: symptoms

i would like to say, in June 2001 after i graudutaed from high i went to the hosptial and was put on serzone. I was on it from june 2001 to about march/april 2002 and i was suffering from instance and very serve stomach pains that stayed with me until i was warned about the FDA putting that warning out. i insisted that i am to be taken off the drug and my new doctor made me take lower and lower mgs of it until i was off of it. Then during this whole time i was shifted to different doctors about my stomach pains and all the tests they took came back like nothing was wrong with me. And i didnt know this drug causes lower back pains too b/c i have been still going through lower back pains causing me not to work. I am in debt with all the medical bills i had to pay out for my stomach pains and my back pains. After my new doctor took me off the drug i had no more stomach pains, and i still have back aches and sometimes my whole leg goes numb. and to think i havent even reached my 21 birthday yet and i am going through all this just b/c i was depressed and put on this drug. I remember during this time i had dark and smelly urine. I didnt even know all this was linked to serzone until i checked things out for myself on why i have back pains. Thanks for helping me. I hope you all help me! Lets stick together!! Love, Desi

Re: symptoms

Sounds like a bunch of psychosomatic mentally suffering individuals are ready willing and through this idle chat site, able to direct their various vagaries onto the drug rather than themselves!
Christ, face it, EVERY drug has potential side-effects, and if you didn't consider that with all the drugs you've been taking, one to the next, Serzone or not, your capacity to describe the publicized symptoms as causal makes you all volunteers for Doctors of Quackery and Frivolity for Lawsuits.
I've been on Serzone for at least 5 years.  I also drink alcohol, take Lithium, Imipramine and Klonopin, all of which can set your liver reeling, or do any number of things over time, combined or individually.  As of this moment, I'm feeling fine, except for the funny feeling that you are crossing the line from information and exploration, to play symptom games and blame.  Yes, it is a tempting offer to fall in with such a line of "reasoning" on this list...now everyone, just get in line with the lawyer of your choice to build your family's future estate, whether you "recover" or drop dead!

Re: symptoms

I recently came off of serzone.  I used it from 1998 to 2004.  My liver enzymes do not show elevation, however, I have a rather uncomfortable pain in my abdomen (where the gallbladder is located) and doctor's can't find a reason for the pain.  Is there a particular doctor I should see and  what test should I ask for?   I do not have a gallbladder, however, the pain is similar to that of a gallbladder attack.

Re: symptoms

....a couple months ago.

I've been suffering from what I thought was Irritable Bowel (can't go regularly plus bloating, pain, mucus) but now I'm wondering.

New internist (over past year) ordered blood work 3 wks ago and my enzymes are thru the roof (150's?). Ordered me off alcohol til for 5 wks til next appt. Also had ultrasound (don't know results til appt), blood occult (neg) He said I don't drink enough water.

I've also suffered from reflux/GERD for about 10 years. Taken Nexium. Propulsid. Ranitidine. nothing works. Have had upper GI, lower GI, scopes, Colonoscopy....no conclusions any

Re: symptoms

I have multiple sclerosis, thyroid disease, pituitary disease, depression, anxiety disorder, and a weak bladder from the MS. I am also SUPER sensitive to medications & have been through all the following antidepressants in the past 5 years: Wellbutrin SR, Prozac, Zoloft, Lexapro, Doxepin, Remeron and Serzone. I also take a daily injection for my MS, a med for my bladder, thyroid and pituitary gland. I see excellent doctors, but am still disabled b/c of MS & depression.

Because of my other health problems, THE ONLY TWO antidepressants I can tolerate are Wellbutrin SR AND SERZONE!!!!! I'm absolutely terrified that Serzone will be taken off the market b/c the only other option will be killing myself without it!!!!!! This is ABSOLUTELY NO JOKE!!! I know it's a horrible thing that people have died from taking it, but as my doc also says, there are thousands upon thousands of people who do very well on it & NEED IT!!!

I HAVE NO OTHER OPTION - PLEASE DON'T TAKE THIS DRUG AWAY FROM PEOPLE WHO CAN'T TOLERATE ANY OTHER ANTI-DEPRESSANTS!!!! I will die from depression WITHOUT it!!!

Re: symptoms

I've been taking Serzone for over a year now.  If you get stomach pains, just take it with food!  Just like so many other OTC drugs.  Then, it doesn't bother your stomach.  It's magical!

I like Serzone and do very well on it.  Everyone is different and I'm upset it's coming off the market.

I read a post stating that Serzone made a guy rob a convenience store.  What kind of melarky is that?!  Ridiculous.  People that take antidepressants get a bad wrap from people like that.  Does he REALLY expect people to belive that?!

Re: symptoms

I have been on Serzone for over 2 years now and I have had my life back in order since.  I too agree that taking Serzone is worth the risk of death.  It's death by Serzone, which I highly doubt.  Or death by me without it.  I get my blood checked everytime I get a new prescription, if anything comes up, then I will not be able to use it.

That's my thoughts

Re: symptoms

raringtrish,

The advise about food is good but it makes no difference if I take mine with or without food, my abdomen hurts/cramps regardless.  The "liver pain" is not associated with when I take my Serzone either.

I am on it for menapausal depression and am attempting to get off it now that I am "through" menapause.  My symptoms are real, I am a nurse and have attempted to explain them off for other reasons but now realize that none of these problems existed until I had been on Serzone for about 6 months.
Everyone does have to weigh the risk and benefits for themselves and take the consequences that go with their decisions.

Re: symptoms

I was taking Serzone for close to 4 years.  I hated the way I felt on this drug, also if I ever consumed even small amounts of alcohol I would have no recall of the events that occured.  I had blood work 14 months ago, and my liver enzymes were very high.  After seeing a bio chemist and having my blood analyzed I was put on a very strict cleansing program.  This  helped my blood work trememdously, but I am still very susceptable to triggered increases with any alcohol.  I am now taking Effexor, I don't think it's as harmful, butn I still don't like what it does.
