Bextra

I have been taking Bextra for 1 year now for osteoarthritis and have not experienced any of the side affects others are describing; I am also not certain that it helps that much....  I am a 60 year old woman, very active (ride 2 horses daily at upper level dressage), fit and apparently healthy. My question is: am I playing with fire by continuing this drug? Are the possible heart problems hidden until something bad happens?  Should I find some other way to minimize the pain and inflamtion....I have tried glucosamine et al and not much luck...do take MSM daily though and am now trying Lyprinol...any thoughts?

Re: Bextra

I took 20 mg Bextra beginning  10/27/02 and ending 08/24/04.
On 08/24/04 I suffered an acute MI with cardiac arrest.
I believe this drug caused my heart attack.  Please read studies of Cox II inhibitors.

Re: Bextra

What I've found out is that this class of drugs (Cox-2 Inhibitors) show an increase risk of heart attack or stroke in patients taking Vioxx, Celebrex and Bextra for more than 18 months.

The results of these studies refer to the side effects as an "adverse cardiac event."  I've found out that includes "myocardial infarction or heart attacks, blood clots, arrythmia, deep vein thrombosis" and a whole list of other problems.

Also, the studies state these drugs should not be given to cardiac patients.  That may be another issue that need to be evaluated.

Don't take chances with this medication.  Your family should not have to suffer the losses that so many people are because Merck and Pfizer need to sustain their 600+ billion a year income potential from unsafe drugs.
