I was wondering if anyone has had an allergic reaction to Vioxx. I work in the medical community and have an allergy to sulfa drugs. Apparently most of the physicians and hospitals here do not know that there is sulfur in Vioxx. All my doctors know I have the allergy and I was prescribed Vioxx and ended up in the hospital unable to breathe and with an irregular heartbeat. I was lucky that I did not take but a couple of doses of the product.
I wonder how many people who have had cardiovascular problems were actually allergic to sulfa drugs.
When I had a recent procedure in a hospital in Houston I gave them my list of allergies. When I told them Vioxx and sulfa drugs the nurse said she thought Vioxx was a sulfa drug, but when she called for verification she was told it was not. The ingredients list sulfur.
It makes me think the problem is even bigger than just putting unsafe drugs out there, what about the safe ones not properly labeled!!!

My father was on Vioxx, but we had to take him off of it because he is allergic to Sulfa also. We have to check all medications for sulfa because the doctors don't. Look for the word sulfonamides also or sulfates. My father had been taking Lasix (furosemide) for several years and now has ITP and has had to have blood transfusions because of bleeding. All from the Lasix because it has sulfa in it. So please check the contents of all your drugs.
