A victim from lexapro

My son was prescribed lexapro for a mild anxiety. He was a happy young man (eighteen),full of life.He was making projects for his future and began college two days before he died to suicide.
Can anybody tell me how to get in touch with parents who are in the same situation?
I do not trust Pharmacuetical companies or thier quick fix pills with many adverse side effects!

Sorry to hear about the loss of your son! I have heard people swear by them?

I have also witness changing personalities, suicidal thoughts and phsychosis behavior from people on the drugs such as Adderall, Lexapro, Klonapin, (spell?)
Maybe these medications are suitable to many people. But they should be given under supervision and after warning both parents and kids or young adults so they can notice changes in behavior.
I only noticed a change in behavior just the day he died.I could never tell that his medicine blew his brain until he killed himself.
I will never forgive myself for having trusted that psychiatrist.

I know your post is a year old, but we just buried our son yesterday.  He had just started on Lexapro very recently and committed suicide five days later.  He was 30.  Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated.
I have found the best site on the web I believe, that has info about how modern medicine operates.

Visit      www.newstarget.com
.. There is a large resource of articles about the big drug companies and the FDA.  What they really do vs. The common perceptions most people have.  I don't claim to be an expert and should add the disclaimer ..Consult your doctor.... (this is not medical or legal advice)

As for suggestions or advice, I would gladly offer any opinions or info I could, however I am uncertain what specifically you are trying to accomplish.  I am not a doctor or a lawyer, but I value truth and have concern for the needs of others.

Let me know what you are trying to accomplish and I will offer any info I can.

It is unfortunate that this has happened to your family.

Thank you very much for your response and for alerting me to NewsTarget.com.  I will check that out shortly.  Right now my objective is to learn as much as possible about the incidences of suicide (or attempts )among Lexapro users.

I too am sorry that you lost a child and that you continue to suffer with his loss.  For me, the pain is new, and we've been fortunate to have wonderful family and friends to comfort us.  We don't know if Lexapro is in any way responsible for what happened to our son, but we are suspicious about the level of care he received from his doctor.  We're hoping the tox screen results will shed some light on the mystery, but those results take a while to get.  I made a vow to our son that I would keep myself healthy in order to have the stamina to face the future, and if need be, fight the powers that be which facilitated my son's demise.
He would want it that way.

I wish you a restored peace of mind and strength for the future.

Re: A victim from lexapro

What is a tox screen?
It is very important to be surrounded by family and friends. But for me nothing seems to work.My only hope is death. This would give me some relief.

Re: A victim from lexapro

My apologies for responding so slowly; I don't go on line every day.  The tox screen is just another term for the toxicology screening done at autopsy.  It takes about 6-8 weeks to get the findings which will show the approximate level of medications, drugs, etc., present at time of death.

I recently spoke with a gentleman who lost a child to suicide about five years ago.  He told me something very profound (I think) regarding parents' reaction to the suicide of a child.  If there are other children in the family (which is the case with me) and the parents fall into an abyss of despair, than not only have the surviving children lost a sibling, they will have lost their parent(s), as well.  I sincerely hope you will find the courage and help needed to go on with your life.

Re: A victim from lexapro

I'm sorry about your son's 2004 death.  I have nothing but praise for Lexapro because it literally saved my life in 2006 (it has been instrumental in reducing my risk of death from hypercalcemia, a metabolic/auto-immune disorder where the body retains too much calcium in the blood due to a pH imbalance; Lexapro's anti-anxiety effects helps rebalance the pH by calming the "fight or flight" instinct that drives up pH levels), but I do know people who have had less-than-ideal reactions to it (though yours is the first suicide I'd heard about).  Anti-depressants and anti-anxiety drugs work by affecting brain chemistry, and in some people it doesn't take much to swing the pendulum too far in the other direction.  This is one of the unfortunate cases, and I'm very sad for your loss.
