Vioxx - blood clots

I am suffering from deep vein thrombosis in my left leg after a flight from Australia to New Zealand where I live.  Three months previous I had clots in my right foot.  This time last year I had a clot on the lung after a 24 hour flight from London to New Zealand.  Does anyone think this is related to Vioxx.  It all started about the time I started taking Vioxx.  I have never had problems with clots before that time.  I have been puzzled as to the cause of my blood clots and wondering if there is a link with Vioxx.

Re: Vioxx - blood clots

Did you know that when taking Vioxx, you have a higher risk of blood clots associated with heart attack and/or stroke than if you were taking Naproxen?  You should definitely speak with your doctor regarding your experiences and concerns.  Best of luck.  Keep me posted.

Re: Vioxx - blood clots

No I didn't know that by taking Vioxx you had a higher risk of clots.  My GP didn't advise me.  I did not realise you should take Vioxx if you suffer from Hypertension as well.  There should be more education on this drug.  I now have to take Warfarin indefinitely and wear medical stockings on both legs.

Re: Vioxx - blood clots

I was only prescribed Vioxx for one month, before it was changed to Mobic... Ive NEVER previously taken Vioxx and in the last 2 weeks, since being off Vioxx, Ive had hypertension (140/100 , where I have NEVER had high BP before) & I have a possible DVT (deep vein thrombosis or "bloodclot) in my right leg, where this has never happened before so I find this topic very interesting as my physcian NEVER told me high BP or DVT, was a potential side effect of taking this medication...

Re: Vioxx - blood clots

Did you know that there are lawsuits against the manufacturers of Vioxx for side effects such as blood clots, strokes and heart attacks caused by using this drug?  You should contact Parker & Waichman, the law firm which moderates this site, to find out if you have a case.  Hope you're feeling better soon and that things work out for you.

Re: Vioxx - blood clots

So far for me it's worth the risk. I take two 25mg each day, without them
I could't  work at all. My arthritis is at the point where I will freeze up
without the vioxx, I know it's not good for me but WHAT ELSE can I do???
Do you really have a choice ???

Re: Vioxx - blood clots

I agree with greg, I have been on vioxx since summer of 1999. I recently let my script run out and was out of it for about 3 weeks before my mail-in pharmacy finally got my refill to me. I had about decided that I had reinjured my back. The pain was very intense and it subsided after 2 or 3 days of getting back on the vioxx. So far I can not tell that I have any negative side effects from it and pray that it stays that way.

Re: Vioxx - blood clots

I was just diagnosed with fibromyalgia and have been taking vioxx for quite a while now.  It really helps with my all over body pain.  I have tryed celebrex and it just doesn't do the job like vioxx.  I hate to think what I would do without it.
But after reading your messages I have to admitt that I am a little leary now.  I will definately be keeping a close eye on my symptoms from now on and plan on talking with my doctor about it.  Thanks for all the info!

Re: Vioxx - blood clots

I took vioxx for six months, then suffered a pulmonary thrombosis.  I have DVT in my left leg, and suffer from hypertension as a result of taking vioxx.

I have to take Warfarin, (main ingrediant in rat poison), and Lotrel for the rest of my life to try and prevent a stroke, and or heart attack.  Also have to wear TED hose on both legs.

Before taking vioxx I had none of these symptoms or problems.

Several law firms I have contacted only handle heart attack and strokes.

Does anyone handle cases that were prevented from going this far?

Left untreated, I would have suffered a heart attack, stroke, and or death because of the vioxx.

It seems I'm being prevented from filing because I didn't die.

Guess it's an easier case that way.
