I am a migraine sufferer who was referred to a "Pain Doctor." The doctor was provided "coupons" for free samples by the Actiq's salesperson which he gave to me and my wife. Not only is Actiq 40 times more potent than morphine and incredibly addictive, it also devastated my teeth. I read all the information enclosed in the package and there was no mention of this side effect, at the time. Apparently extra care and visits to your dentist is now part of each box's patient information sheet, but too late for me.

Anyone else using Actiq for pain other than Cancer Break Through Pain which it is for which it is indicated?

I have been using Actiq for the last 3 years. It was rx'd to me for severe back pain. I must say it has worked the best for me than any other pain medications. The best thing about it is it doesn't make me feel dazed at all, but takes my pain away enough that I can actually have somewhat of a life. I have been taking the 1200's, one every 6 hrs as needed for breakthrough pain. I am on a tight budget and now since Medicaid/Medicare have initialized the new insurance program, they refuse to pay for this medication. I can not afford the ridiculous price of over 5,000.00 a month that Cephalon charges. This medication acts fast, and I much more prefer it over an injection anytime. I heard that the FDA has only approved this for cancer pain. Pain is pain, and anyone suffering everyday understands this, and how important it is to find something that helps. I hope that Actiq can be allowed to help other than cancer patients in near future. I hate that your teeth have been damaged so much. But I also hope that Actiq worked with your migraines, for I know how horrible they are also. Good Luck.

I am 17 years old and I have horrible chronic back pain. I can Relate 2 'Suffering' (the blogger). I am in the almost the exact situation as 'Suffering'.
Its a long story but 2 cut it short, I hurt my back very bad and my life has COMPETELY come 2 a halt! I am doing school online now because of my back pain. I have been going through this for 18 months and it feels more like 3 years. I take oxycontin for mantenance, and i have gone through lots of different breakthrough medicine and Actiq is by far works the best.
I couldnt believe how well it worked! It gave me hope. It reminded me how it feels like 2 be healthy again. the doctor was prescribing me 800mcg's of actiq every 6 hours, and i was happy again! I felt like a regular teenager! I could actually sit through a movie, I could actually play with my puppy, I could actually.....live! But then actiq stopped giving out coupons 2 my doctor, and my mom switched jobs so she could take me 2 doctors and care for me, (She's my angel) so our insurance changed and the won't pay for the actiq and they say that it is only for cancer pain. WTF?! ......and now I am back to the pain, back to laying on my couch screaming, back to falling flat on the ground in public with a crowed of people hovering around me "Are you OK?!" "Call 911!" then when i tell them that its ok, and that it happens all the time, they think that i must have hit my head when i went down.
I'm Sick of this!! I will be 17 in december, and I DONT WANT 2 TURN 17! I WANT 2 BE 16....I WANT 2 ACT LIKE IM 16...I WANT 2 FEEL LIKE IM 16....I DONT WANT 2 TURN 17 BECAUSE I HAVENT BEEN ABLE 2 BE 16 YET!!!

Alright, I have alot more 2 say but i can only spend so much time sitting and typing on the computer....

But anyway.... have u gotten any help yet? lemme kno how you are doing, i am interested.

I had plans for my life! I want live! I want 2 be/act like im my own age! I never thought that this would b going on this long And now im starting 2 think that i will have 2 be like this the rest of my life I dont want 2 live anymore if this is how its gonna be my whole life! It's redicuous that insurance/ pharmaceuticals company's are so money hungry that they dont care if they are ruining peoples lifes 2 get money!! I wish there was somthing that i could do to change it, but how im i going 2 do that if i cant even pull up my own pants! maybe channel 19 could help us out Im pretty sure that 5,000 dollars for month is the most craziest thing ive ever hurd. and they can do it 2! Because people like us need them so baddly.
Its true People really dont understand what bad pain is if they have never had it.
People that are healthy really take it for granted. I know when i was i did...

I received the welcome package from Actiq and in the package there was a DVD and in the DVD they said to rub the sucker on the inside of your cheeks, so it will not touch your teeth....just thought i would throw that out. tell me if it helps!
