Why can we not get our own test machines to test INR.
Offline
A few years ago I was found with DVT, two clots, one in each vein of the right leg. I took ten days of the Lovenox (sp?) shots & Coumadin pills, but don't recall the doctor talking about INR testing. Can somone please tell me what INR is?
Thank you,
Teresa

You didn't get your INR screened? A PT/INR is a way of checking the Coumadin levels in your blood. Too much Coumadin can be toxic to the blood stream, and not enough keeps you in danger of being ill again. You should have been tested once a week for the first month, then as long as everything is well, go to a once a month test. Mine is tested every month. If you are still on the Coumadin, I urge you to demand to have your PT/INR monitored.

My wife takes Coumadin and they tell her that for her condition and INR between 2.0-3.0 is considered therapeutic. Your mileage may vary.

I would suggest you go the Medline web site and put in key words relating to your problem. You should be able to find abstracts to articles which can help you:
