celebrex and bleeding ulcer

My dad was on Celebrex and almost died when he developed a bleeding ulcer with no warning.  Has anyone had this problem or know of someone who has?  He had never had any stomach problems although he has had arthritis for years and has taken many NSAIDS for it.

Re: celebrex and bleeding ulcer

My mother developed an internal bleed while on celebrex. It proceed to cause an infection that attacked her heart valve. During surgery to repair the valve, which was nearly completely detached at the time, she appeared to suffer a stroke while on heart pump. She recovered but never really got back to her healthy self. She died of a massive heart attack 4 months later. I have always felt that the the trigger was celebrex because she was a healthy woman until she had some arthritis pain treated with celebrex.  That was the beginning of the end. I thought there was a connection between internal bleeds and celebrex but maybe i misread that. Anyone out there have info re: this?

Re: celebrex and bleeding ulcer

I was recently diagnosed as being "severly anemic" as a result of bleeding lesions in my stomach and small intestine. These were found during a colonoscopy, endoscopy, and a small camera device that is swallowed and then monitored for 8 hours.

I have an infection in the lining of my stomach, and am currently taking meds to help heal the lesions.

I took Celebrex for 2 years for arthritis in my hands. It controlled the pain, but ripped up my insides,
Anybody else have similar probs?

Re: celebrex and bleeding ulcer

I would suggest you go the Medline web site and put in key words relating to your problem.  You should be able to find abstracts to articles which can help you:

Good luck, Harold Boxenbaum, Ph.D.

P.S. Also do a google search with key words including patient package insert
