Hello, I just read an article here and numerous other sites now relating vicodin and related drugs to hearing loss. I am now wondering if anyone else on this medication or any other form of it for a period of time has experienced the same. I have been taking something very similar for a while at lower doses than those reported and have experienced hearing loss. I had no idea what it could have been caused by until now. For those who call me stupid and say its my own fault, Your right. I wish I had known. I usually research everything Im prescribed or not, even vitamines. There is very little on this and its relativly new. The experts still question how this happens yet they agree it does and is caused by vicodin and related drugs containing hydrocodone and acetaminophen. I pray its not too late and I can retain what hearing I have left by discontinuing its use. Wondering if anyone else has experienced this or know of anyone who has. Thanks Much.

Reading this thread is eyeopening. I have been taking oxycodone for over two years. I have an awful ringing in both of my ears. The doctor couldn't figure out what it was from. I have also taken steroids for that period of time as well. From what I read here my hearing would be worse off if I didn't have the steroid. Is there legal action being taken due to this drug?
PS: I got off the oxy by taking Duragesic Patches. No withdrawl.

I have taken vicodin for a long time and I have such bad ringing in my ears that it is unbelievable. My cardiologist gave me xanxex for it. I don't know what it is from as I have been on so many medications. It could also be from my heart valve regergitation.

I have been on lorcet 10/650 for the past 14 years every day at the rate of about 6 per day. I have degenertive disk disease fibrominalgia siatic nerve problem in my back and daily headaches, I also have 2 protruding disk in my neck. I had been doing quite well on the lorcet and was able to live an almost normal life. Then my doctor decided that he wanted to get me off the meds and stated limiting me to about 4 a day. when that wasnt effective he decided to put me on oxycotin. at first I was on 20 mg 2xday but was having alot of breakthrough pain. He refused to give me something to take in between for the breakthru pain and uped my dosage to 40mg 2xday. now in order to try and control the breakthru pain which I still have I started braking them up ane taking them more frequently. this has done nothing but make me desire the drug not only for pain but I now have a desire for it. I have become depressed and am constantly worried about where Im going to get enough to last until I can get another script. does anyone have any advice? I have to have pain control to function but I have got to get away from the oxy. also any advice for easing withdrawal?

After a recent knee operation, I took only 11 doses of Hydrocodone (according to the prescription) and suffered significant hearing loss. Luckily, this hearing loss only lasted 3 weeks. By the time I could get an appointment with an audiologist I tested OK. The research I saw on the internet suggested that high doses over a long period of time could result in hearing loss (as in Rush Limbaugh's case) but my experience indicates that the hearing problems can be caused with much lower doses and terms. I certainly won't take this drug again.

I started taking hydrocone with a broken leg in 2003. I was only on prescription for about 2 months. As I look back ringing in my ears started at about the same. N ow it is absolutely unbearable. I saw an ENT this week and after a hearing test he is recommending hearing aids in both ears. I am only 45 years old. Could this be from the meds? I have also taken ultram and elavil for pain with back. Has anyone else had hearing loss attributed to these meds?
