Accutane, intended indicated for the treatment of severe, recalcitrant, nodular acne, has been linked with several serious side effects, including serious birth defects and suicide. Accutane, or Isotretinoin, is a retinoid that is related to retinoic acid and retinol, or Vitamin A. Isotretinoin inhibits sebaceous gland function and keratinization. Accutane treatment for 15 to 20 weeks results in complete and prolonged remission of acne is most patients. Sometimes, a second course of treatment is needed.

In addition to birth defects and suicide, Parker Waichman Alonso Mark LLP is investigating Accutane cases involving inflammatory bowel disease, crohn’s disease, colitis, loss of vision, loss of hearing and growth disc problems. If you or a loved one has been injured by Accuntane please complete the case inquiry form on the right side of this page for a free evaluation.

Accutane effects one year later?

My son took accutane last year for approximately 3-5 months.  At the time we never really noticed any depression, etc.  He had the side effects of dry chapped lips but other than that he seemed fine.  Now a year later he is very unhappy, thinks he is a disappointment to us his parents, just an average person that doesn't excel in anything, etc...His grades have dropped dramatically.  The grades started dropping last year while taking Accutane and we thought it was "teen" stuff.  Now I am wondering if taking this med could have caused the grades to drop last year and could it still be effecting him now?  He just doesn't seem to be the same person anymore and never seems happy or smiles, etc.

What do we do?  Should we take him to see a psychiatrist or what type of dr?
