On September 15, 1997 the FDA asked American Home Products (now Wyeth), the manufacturer or fenfluramine (Pondimin) and dexfenfluramine (Redux) to voluntarily remove these drugs from the market. These anti-obesity drugs were prescribed by themselves or in combination with phentermine for weight loss. "Fen-Phen" refers to the use in combination of fenfluramine and phentermine.

The FDA decision to remove the drugs came after researchers at the Mayo Clinic and Mayo Foundation reported 24 cases of rare valvular disease know as Primary Pulmonary Hypertension or PPH in women who took the "fen-phen" combination therapy. Subsequently, FDA received 66 additional reports of heart valve disease associated mainly with "fen-phen." There were also reports of cases seen in patients taking only fenfluramine or dexfenfluramine.

Primary Pulmonary Hypertension can take years to develop. If you or a loved on took Fen Phen and was diagnosed with PPH you may have valuable legal rights, please complete the case inquiry form of the right side of this page for a free consultation.

Poor souls

12 years ago in Florida, big tobacco was ordered to pay the state of Florida something like 13 billion dollars.  Well, all these years later there is 600 million still left in a trust and a Miami judge ordered that the 600 million be divided equally amongst those who suffered injury prior to 1996.  They estimate 10,000 - 50,000 people.

Whether or not those who continued to smoke and became ill should be entitled to any money is a moot point since the judge has ordered the distribution.

These people have to file a claim and prove they suffered injury--sound familiar?

I feel bad for the poor souls who will be cheated out of their share of money.  I imagine there will be commercials on TV very soon.  "Have you suffered injury do to tobacco?  We can help you get your fair share?"

Re: Poor souls

Speaking of trolling for clients...

Hubby and I were in Florida recently and found a colorful insert ( the kind meant for you to take away with you) in the hotel room phone book. It was a law firm advertising for accident cases and, among other things, this is what it said in bold letters -

                                                     OUR CLIENTS COME FIRST

IF THERE IS A FINANCIAL RECOVERY, OUR
ATTORNEY FEES WILL NOT EXCEED YOUR NET RECOVERY

Isn't that just the most precious thing??? They promise that they won't take more than 100% of whatever your net recovery is. Doesn't that make you  just want to run out and hire them??
