Stomach distress on lamisil

Hi,
I just started taking Lamisil on Tuesday. I seem to be experiencing stomach cramping and slight nausea since beginning. I do take the tablet with food.
Anyone else have this side effect? And is it temorary?
Thanks.

Re: Stomach distress on lamisil

Hi, I started on Tuesday as well and here's what I've noticed: thursday afternoon I took a nap and when I woke up I had a blaring headache and an upset stomach.  I felt slight nausea and also some hot and cold flashes.  After a couple hours I felt totally fine.  It did scare me a little, but according to my doctor nausea is a normal side effect for some people.  I haven't felt it since then.  Another side efect is that my skin on my arms, hands and neck feel a little extra sensitive.  Like I sunburned them.  Almost like if i'd taken niacin, but that goes away after a bit too and it's not so bad that I really think about it.  Have you noticed anything other side effects?

Re: Stomach distress on lamisil

I took Lamisil for 90 days and never had any problems with it. Just checked out this thread. Is there something wrong with it.

Re: Stomach distress on lamisil

I am at the end of 6wk/1xday prescription.  The first day I had a little diarrhea, and I feel profoundly tired by the end of the day if I don't nap, (perimenopause??), but other than that, no noticable changes (though I feel my bladder much more, like when I have to go, it's almost painful if I wait, like I'm waiting for an ultrasound or something. I bought some cranberry tea with uva ursi (Cran-Aid by Traditional Medicinals), and think I'll get a few bottles of cranberry juice for the next few weeks, it's nice heated with a cinnamon stick and some honey)
I asked my dr. for an extra liver test last week, and she hasn't called with any bad news, so hopefully all is well, but I'll never do this again.  10 yrs of infection and I still don't know if it was worth it.  Those photos on lamisil.com were pretty scary though.
I'm taking a milkthistle formula with burdock, dandelion, licorice and wild yam, (Quest) and sometimes I drink dandelion root tea (Nature's Impulse) to keep my liver strong, hopefully it will protect it from any damages due to lamisil.  I can't tell you if it is wise to mix herbals with prescription drugs, but I have to do something positive to protect my liver (I don't drink alcohol at all and have avoided tylenol during my tx).  Hope someone can benefit from this info.  May Allah protect you.
I have noticed some changes in my foot.  This fungus had eaten the entire surface of the bottom of my foot, and now, 6 weeks later, my foot is almost smooth again, no itching, my nails aren't as sore anymore, they don't grow so fast with all that white gunk forcing the nail upward and distorted, and now and then I feel tingling in my toes and the odd sharp pain under a nail or two (nerve regeneration?) No more blisters, peeling, cracking, shingling or scratching the sheets with my foot at night.  No more catching my sock as I put my foot in, no more strips of thick skin peeling like a banana and catching on the bed sheet and waking me from the sting.  Today, I even soaked my feet and took a pumice to them for the first time in decades, and my foot is soooo soft and pretty again.  Just waiting for the nails to grow out properly now.  I'll let you know how they do, Allah willing.

Re: Stomach distress on lamisil

Well, I'll tell you, Lamisil sure does kick you in the head when it comes to energy.  Since I finished the prescription, I am feeling much better and don't have that profound tiredness anymore.  My bladder is back to normal too.

I haven't had any other side effects as of yet, and my foot is wonderful.  All of my toes are healed, the bottom of my foot is as soft and smooth as the other foot, and the only sign left is about one sixteenth of an inch at the top of my large toenail is still white, and the skin around the tip of the nail is still hard and damaged, though no longer infected.  All my other toes also went through the stages as the nails grew out and now all are pink and flat and don't hurt anymore.

So, I hope this encourages the rest of you still in tx. and those of you thinking of tx.  I know there are some scary stories, but so far I have been satisfied with Lamisil.  I just pray I don't have a relapse or side effects in the future, Allah willing.

Now and then the dreaded fungus tries to attack a finger for a day or two, small blisters and itching, but I use an over the counter cream (Micatin) once or twice and then it's gone, but makes me wonder if it is still in my blood. :-?

Re: Stomach distress on lamisil

Well, it's the end of November and I am still infection free and I have not noticed any side affects from the medicine.  My foot is WONDERFUL!  Never know I had an infection at all.

If I can remember, I'll try to come back and post the end of every year to let you know.

Re: Stomach distress on lamisil

Well, it's now June 2006.  My foot is wonderful!  No signs of nail infection ever returning, only little warnings of athlete's foot between my last two toes every now and then (peeling), but no inching, no blistering, no physical side affects as I can tell, and no liver damage!!!!!!!!!!!

I notice if I wear something like rubber flip flops my large toes are vulnerable to the small strip peeling, I don't know if that is the same fungus or another kind, only shows up if I use non absorbant soled footwear without socks.  Goes away on it's own.

So, there you are.  I hate prescription drugs, I hate messing with my liver, I hate advertising for drug companies, but I have to tell the truth, I have been happy with this drug's results.  It was very hard on me, and was probably quite dangerous if I hadn't been monitering my liver and being extra cautious what I put my liver through at the same time, but the fungus is gone and who knows what other affects that fungus had on the rest of my body, if that is how strong it was in my blood.

Hope my postings help someone to try it, just don't do it when your life is upside down or overly demanding cause it'll knock you right on your butt!

Re: Stomach distress on lamisil

DO NOT TAKE LAMISIL if you value your liver or your life.  My wife took Lamisil back in Dec. 2003.  After about 10 days she became deathly ill.  Sever headaches, vomiting, dark clay color stools, urine the color of coffee, body aches and weakness.  She never thought it was the lamisil.  She and I thought she had the flu.  Finally had to take her to the hospital....first thing they did after finding out she was taking Lamisil was to order blood test, not only to check for the flu but to check her liver.  Liver emzymes were severally elevated.  She spend the next two weeks in the hospital.  During that time her other organs began to fail.  The doctor was concerned that she would not survive.......thank God she did.  Before taking Lamisil my wife was a jogger.  She would jog 5 miles a day.  After she got out of the hospital it took almost a year before she was able to resume jogging.  I contacted the drug company complaining about the effects that it had on my wife....wanting them to know so that others could be warned to look out for these problems.  Their reply was that their drug Lamisil was safe and it must have been some other reason for her sickness, even though I had documents where 3 doctors had said they thought that Lamisil was at fault.  She still has problems to this date.

DO NOT TAKE LAMISIL

Re: Stomach distress on lamisil

Hi, I'm back AGAIN,

It's July 2009, and my foot is wonderful.  You'd never know I had any nail fungus problems or distortions.  The pain has never returned, and aside from a mild case of peeling between my little to and 2nd last toe, about 3 times since I took this drug, which always cleared up in a couple of days with some over the counter cream, I have never had athlete's foot or nail fungus again.

I haven't died of any liver disease yet, and am not aware of any liver affects.

So just updating anyone interested.  I really hate taking these heavy drugs, I prefer herbal remedies for simple problems, but I think I made the right decision with this one.  After 10 years of suffering and watching it slowly spread, I am now cured of this affliction.

(LOL I swear I haven't been paid by any drug company or website for my testimonial.  I'm a real person, you can google my name and read all about my ... umm... well, about me).

Re: Stomach distress on lamisil

Butch,

I'm very sorry to hear about your wife.  Thank you for sharing it here.

I guess there is a percentage who are severely affected by it, if doctors were so quick to determine it was the Lamisil.  They have the experience.
