my physician prescribed celebrex and then said i could take aleve(naproxene sodium)with it. Has anyone developed a sensitivity to all NSAIDS after taking this combination? I can't take even 1 aleve without getting a rash, hives,or spontaneous bruising.
I am also writing this to warn others to be cautious when combining these drugs and to question the diagnosis "osteoarthritis". i was misdiagnosed with osteoarthritis related to my complaints of neck pain and muscle spasms in my neck, shoulder, and upper back areas. the pain worsened and i developed tingeling in both arms at night as well as during the day. i took the celebrex as prescribed and aleve together. i developed a rash and hives in my trunk and face area, as well as spontaneous bruising on both of my thighs and a jaundice coloring to my skin. i called my physician and asked to be referred to a pain management center, because of what i believed to be sensitivity reactions to the aleve and celebrex i stopped taking them. The pain was again unbearable. i was refused the referral and asked "can you prove you had this reaction?" and "stop all this falderol" and "how much of the aleve were you taking?" i had to start with a new physician before i could get a referal. it took 1 1/2 months to get to the pain management center where in one visit i was diagnosed with a classic whiplash injury or technically, cervical joint dysfunction, and given one set on injections to my neck injury area of steroids, and was out of pain for the first time in 20 years. i had asked my doctor,if this is osteoarthritis why do i only hurt in one place, wouldn't i have osteoarthritis in other joints also? i continue to have the sensitivity reactions and found out after spraining my ankle, and an unrelated surgery how debilitating it can be to not be able to take any type of NSAIDS.

Hi, I would be very angry at the original prescibing physicians office and their beligerant, defiant and rude responses to your complaint after taking AS PRESCRIBED this medication. And on top of this refusing a referral.!!!
I have worked in the pharmacy business, both retail and hospital aspects, and find it highly inept to be told to take ansaids along with the new super wonder cox 2 inhibitors, (ie celebrex, vioxx)!!
It is clearly contraindicated! My question to this physicians office is why won't you give me a referral and how soon can my medical records be released to my lawyer.
My husband also took Celebrex for about 6 months. We have not had such a wonderful outcome with Celebrex either. While the drug did its job as far as pain control, the far reaching side effects of this medication sent us on a rollercoaster ride last Thanksgiving weekend and continues to this day. While Deerhunting about 200 miles from home, he suffered a heart attack and subsequently taken to a hospital not equipped to handle cardiac cases as his. On top of that he had a blood clot on the very artery that was causing the attack.
Well, he was air medivac'd to Houston and had a stent placement in the left artery, affectionately nicknamed the "widowmaker" artery. Suffice to say, he has had cardiac catherization twice, numerous stress tests and had to change life style habits out the wazoo.....
I want to thank you for allowing me to babble......I do hope you are doing well...
