This is a really nasty medication. Prior to being placed on it at the end of 1999 I was 195 pounds a six percent body fat. I had an operation on L5-S1 (lower back -- huge mistake), which subsuquently led to the deterioration of L4-L5 and C5-C6. They put me on Oxycontin at the end of 1999, and I was on it up until the time I expressed to my doctor the fear that I was addicted in 2001. Subsuqently I was prescribed enough medication to get me to a treatment center, and then cut lose. Basically doctors prescribe it, because they know you will get addicted, and will have to come back every week. Well I went a sub par treatment center left had no Oxycontin's at this point I was down to 5 80mg pills a day. I suffered through a living hell, and managed to switch to heroin. I honestly have to admit if it wasn't for heroin I wouldn't of gotten off of Oxycontin's. Now this is someone who prior to his ruptured disc drank maybe 3-4 drinks a month. I weighed 195 pounds, had a 32 inch waist, and was less than 6% body fat. I really took care of myself. I lost my business, because of this horrible drug. Purdue pharmaceuticals makes 8 products of those 8 drugs 5 are pain killers; Oxy IR, Oxycontin, MS IR (Morphine Sulfate), MS Contin, and one other that eludes me at presant. Curremtly I am off of narcotics and on Trileptal, Buspar, Vioxx, and on rare occasion Toradol (A deadly drug -- not narcotic, but causes internal bleeding if used for more than 5 days). This regimen works for neuropathic pain (pain in the back down the right leg). For those of you on Oxycontin I feel for you it is truly brutal. However the following regimen can be used to detox;
Bentyl 20mg x 3 (Helps with stomach cramping)
Clonodine 200mcg x 3 (Lowers pulse and blood
Pressure)
Ativan 2mg x 3 (Treats Anxiety)
Immodium AD (As needed for diarehea)
Phenergen (As needed for nausea)
Ambien 10mg at Night (Sleeping pill)
Vioxx 25mg at Night (Anti-Inflammatory)
The good news is the worst will be over in a week or two. The bad news is that it takes about three months before you will feel normal again. Also on the above detox regimen only Ativan (Lorazepam) is potentially habit forming. However in the grander scale of things that is like telling a man whose arm was just bitten off by a shark that he has an ingrown toenail.
I hope this helps someone. Best Wishes and Goodluck you humble author.
Jake
