Vioxx

Has anyone heard of GI bleeding after taking Vioxx? I started taking Vioxx last spring for my arthritis.  I was fine other than arthritis pain.  Over the summer I landed in hospital for upper GI bleeding.

Re: Vioxx

Vioxx may have side-affects such as GI bleeding and liver problems.  I would definately consult your physician and have him/her run lab work (ie a liver profile).

Re: Vioxx

I have been using vioxx for a long time for artheritis  roll hope thats how you spell it--however, I have not had any side effects other than occasional stomach ache. The problem I have is with the doctor that prescribes it. Both doctors prescribe it with a "no refill" to the pharmicist. Why is it that it's for a condition that doesn't go away so you call in a few days in advance of being out of your medication to the pharmacy and 3 or 4 days later the doctor hasn't even called him back. In the meantime I have no more vioxx and am in pain.

Re: Vioxx

Vioxx is really not worth the possible side effects. Look at the page below.

Re: Vioxx

I am 35 years old and have been taking Vioxx for 3+ years (after back surgery). This past year, I had to have my gall-bladder removed, have had uncontrollable hypertension and now I have to have a heart-cath this week due to irregular heart activity.

Re: Vioxx

I took Vioxx from Aug. 2000 to Dec 2001.  I stopped taking it when I seen a comercial stating Vioxx has been related to heart attacks and strokes.  I didn't here any more about it so I didn't give it another thought.  Then I went in for my annual and they couldn't keep up with my heart rate.   Now after dozens of tests and no explaination why it happened I have to take toprol everyday to keep my heart slowed down.  I also experience palputations all day long.  I guess I'm just feeling a little defensive.  Like maybe I'm not as sickly as I thought.

Re: Vioxx

I have an 18 year old son who took vioxx due to injuries during high school sports.  He took it on and off during the year depending on what was hurting: leg injury in soccer, back pain in track and shoulder problems in football.  During his Junior year his blood pressure was high and the coaches were worried about him playing and sent him several times to a doctor.  The coaches wouldn't let him play without a medical release.  The pediatrician sent us to a cardiologist and they did the usual heart test and sonograms.  Everything looked ok just kept having high blood pressure.  They didn't seem worried but the school continued to take his blood pressure daily and monitor it.  We have a fantastic faculity!  After several months the blood pressure eased up and since he was cleared by the docs { they never put him on any meds for this} I haven't thought much about it.  Yesterday I found the old perscrip for Vioxx and remembered he'd taken it.  Could all of this heart palpatations and high blood pressure have come form the Vioxx?  He is in great shape and it didn't make sense back then.  He didn't take it for 18 months but I am concerned.  Should I worry since all his heart test turned out ok back then?  It's been a year or two since all this happened.  Thanks, :-?
