I am going this week for remicade. I have Crohn's and only take prednisone as of now. However I have been on Prednisone for so long that Remicade is the only option. I have had allergic reactions to meds such as methotrexate (fibrosis of the lungs) and 6mp (abbreviation of the drug can't spell or remember its true name but got a toxic pancreas. My Crohn's was very serious two years ago and I had surgery. Two years after surgery my crohn's has flared again. However, my doctor believes that I may just need to take Remicade once due to the fact that the crohn's is not in full force and we did catch it quickly. What are some things I should look out for. I really didn't want to take this drug, but there is no other choice. As of now the crohn's has flared enough to create a slight narrowing in the intestinal wall. Prednisone has been taken for 10 years at high dosages up to 40 a day. Now on 20 a day was on 2.5 mg a day for two years (after my surgery). Just a little scared, but hopeful at the same time. Just need the knowlege to get through it. God willing. Thank you for your time and information. Leah (33 years old and nothing else is wrong with me- crohn's is enough)

I can't give you any insight, but hang in there.

Leah,
I am interested in how the treatment went as I am about to begin Remicade myself. Let me know and hope you are doing well.

The Remicade went well. I believe it worked some, but the narrowing is still there. I have recently gone through some other very stressful things which may be the reason for it to narrow back up. For a few weeks there I felt great. It was immediate. I could definately tell a difference the day of. I talked to a guy there who had Crohn's and was getting Remicade. He had been on it for a year and said it has done great for him with no problems at all. My doc may try it again or do something else. I am one of those special cases that seems to either be allergic to the meds or it does nothing for me. He did say however that the Crohn's had improved it just hadn't improved as much as he expected. Good luck with it. I have only had one infusion so far. My doc didn't want to do it too close to the last infusion due to the higher chance of side effects. So we are waiting till next month to discuss whether to do it again or something else.
