Dear Michi,
You probably are mildly addicted to oxy, if you've been taking it for a little over 2 months.
I've been taking for 3 years now, and have gone from original dose of 80mg BID to 160 mg 3xday with 1 more 80 mg for breakthrough pain.
I also take 10mg Lortab every 3 to 4 hours for breakthrough.
This came about as a result of a recalled product, which caused 2 abcesses, and has left me not even half the person I used to be. I KNOW I am addicted.
Plus I take 600mg of neurontin 3xday for peripheral pain relief.
Every day I think of suicide. The cost, and the fact that in order to detox, I would have to pay for a rapid detox, under medical supervision, because now my heart doesn't work like it used too.
My advise would be to try to take no more oxy, than you already are.
I don't have a life anymore, I have an existence.
Take care of yourself. I thought I was, by seeing Doctors, but pain meds have enslaved me now. Sometimes I wish I had the pain back. It was cheaper, and sure wasn't addictive. Plus when all is said and done, my body just needs more drugs for same relief.

I just joined today and hope this helps me and mabey I can help others by sharing what I know about this medicine. I think you still have a chance, unlike myself and "whats next". For starters, stop taking 1/2's. Im sure they told you not to break them in half and thats for a good reason. It releases the drug too quickly. If you can get back to just 20 mg. a day and then mabey 10, I would. We all liked the "buzz" at first, but trust me when I say its not worth it. I have been addicted for 3 years too. I started on 10 mg.-twice a day. Now Im 120 mg a day, plus nuerontin and whatever else I can get my hands on. If you keep up the pace you are on, I feel you may end up like me and you dont want that. I can relate to "what next" in many ways. I too think of suicide daily. I went from owning two companies to bankruptcy and jobless in only 3 years. Its a horrible life to live and I wouldnt wish it on my worst enemy. Do yourself and your family a favor and try to get off the meds. I am trying to go public with what has happened to my life so I can help. Its a horrible feeling being prisoner to a drug.

Hi RiffRaff and WN,
i was able to get away from oxy :-)
i sneaked out slooooowly.. i literarly got down with the dose in 5mg steps!
everyweek 5 mg less.. not easy (and i think not very accurate) the 5mg pieces were like some real little stone..
but i dont take any oxy now.. and im a bit proud..
soon i got my back operation.. i lost alot of weight as well.. 20 january comes near.. *urg*..
u mention the buzz.. this buzz is really nice.. but dangerous like hell!! avoid it at all cost!
maybe the sneaking out of it was easier for me because im ADHD and things that make addicted... cant make me addicted somehow... there was a time i was smoking 1 pack a day... got away from it as well.. (with the sneaking thing)
i wish u two and other all the luck to get away from it when ure ready.. and u can alway email me if u want :-)
take care *hugs*

After you have to take more than 40 mg a day then get WORRIED!
and that HIGH feeling is NOT GOOD...you will want to get that feeling more and more and more and will do what ever to get it legally or non
and once you walk into that doc office and say you need more he/she will or could take it away and put you in detox.
listen to a wife that KNOWS first hand!!

if your loving the feeling of the high of the oxy I would suggest you get off of it ..and find a better way of dealing with your pain ..my friends always ask me for my drugs because they want the high but I have to keep telling them NO for one reason I dont take it to get high I take it to be able to walk

I have been there and done that. You need to go to a mehtadone clinic and get help. I am sorry to say that. They are highly addictive. Take care!

methadone isn't the best answer...suboxone is the newest way to deal with opiate addiction...more and more methadone clinics are switching over to suboxone...
see this site for more information: http://www.suboxone.com
i've been on suboxone for about 2 years now...i was crushing/chewing 160mgs of OC every day...suboxone saved my life...i'll probably be on it the rest of my life, but it's so much better than being a junky...

I guess I'm lucky. I've been on 60 mg three times a day for three years. Took less for 2 years before. Started out 20 twice a day, went to 40 twice a day, then 40 three times and finally to 60 where I am now. My pain is tolerable and I have almost as normal a life as I did before I was hurt. (My injury was two ruptured discs in my neck 5 years apart and bone spurs cutting my spinal cord in each) The only buzz I ever felt was when I accidentally took a double dose. Recently I had my pills stolen at work and went ten days without any and the worst part was my chronic pain coming back and that sucked. But, still no cravings, no sweats, no thoughts of knocking off a drug store. I was glad when I got my refills, but I liked being able to walk and work again. I have had more bad effects from the Neurontin I take and am much more concerned about it than the Oxycontin.
Oh yeah- as to cutting them- there is an encapsulated substance in the coating of newer Oxycontin tablets that deactivates the medicine if it is released by cutting or crushing according to the mfg. I have been told that hard core users rinse off the coating with warm water or swish the tablets around in their mouth until the coating is dissolved to get around it.
