New or Pending Malpractice Cases

Back in September my Mom had several messages left on her  answering machine at home.  The message left stated that the person calling was calling from a hospital where she had had surgery and care over 20 years ago and it was to do with work her then physician had done. She assumed it was related to research. When she called it was the office of a medical practice and they knew nothing. I called several other departments at the hospital and no one knew anything. I even e-mailed the university where the surgeon had taught and some kind person e-mailed me back to say the surgeon had died in 1989 and they knew nothing. I sort of assumed perhaps a fellow was looking over the doctors files for a research project and dropped the matter essentially. I did send a letter to our state's Department of Public Health regarding some current issues I had concerns and happened to mention these telephone messages Mom had gotten. Their office is in that particular hospital and they did some checking and found nothing. I recieved a message to call them which I did about the other matter, but the matter of the telephone calls was repeatedly brought up and I was asked to call them if I got anymore. I was surprised they were so interested. Does anyone know how I would find out if maybe these calls had come out of an investigation and litigation or pending litigation. The surgeon and hospital are in the Boston, MA area. Cathy
