Enbrel for Psoriasis, new and dont know what to expect

Hello,
I am a 41 year old white male who has had psoriasis for 31 years now and have tried everything from tar to steroids to methotrexate. I was at the dermatoligist the other day and they signed me up for Enbrel and told me what great things this drug has been doing, but I get online and see all the side effects of this and I am so scared. I also have psoriatic arthritis from this in my breast bone. I have so many questions I dont know where to start. I am also supposed to take 2 shots on Mondays and 2 on Thursdays and I havent seen anyone taking quiet this much at one time. Can someone please shead some light on this drug for me and give me the oppinions I am looking for. I pray to God every day for the knowledge and strength to make the right decission. I have 2 little girls that need there dad and I would rather have the psoriasis than to be dissabled or worse yet dead. Thank you for your time.

Re: Enbrel for Psoriasis, new and dont know what to expect

I've been on Enbrel since Feb., 2003 for RA and PA. I've had no side effects and have found the drug to be the best I've been prescribed. As to the dosage - you seem to be taking twice the normal amount. It's usually either 2 shots a week - first one and then the second 48-72 hrs. later. However, now there is a dosage of one shot a week which is what I've switched to. I see no difference in taking it this way.

Hope this helps/

Re: Enbrel for Psoriasis, new and dont know what to expect

I have been on Enbrel now for about 3 1//2 months. I take 2 shots, twice a week as you described. They are the lower does shots of 25mg instead of 50. Many people are now switching to the new 50 mg as it is premixed and one shot instead of two. I have heard though with the new one, it actually hurts to inject (just what I have heard).

I have had Psoriasis since I was 2, I am now 39. I too have tried everything out there. Nothing ever worked. I have severe Psoriasis, not just patches on the elbows. I am covered head to toe, or at least I was.

My skin is incredibly clear now. I still have a few minor areas, but NOTHING like before. It is an amazing feeling to go out in shorts and not worry about the stares.

I also have RA. But have not noticed a decline in pain. It has simply cleared up the skin.

I have had NO side effects at all with Enbrel, although a few times I have had a reaction at the injection site. Small lump, and or bleeding, nothing big.

If I was asked to do it again, heck ya. After 37 years I am free.
