I guess I am a classic example, I was prescribed 200 size celebrex for arthritis pain in Mar 2002, a change from other NSAID's due to ulcers. This was increased to 400 size in late 2003. In Feb 04 I suffered a massive heart attack. The cardiologist immediately insisted that I take no further Celebrex!
I am a 67 year old retired US Army Officer, have had no history of heart problems, no history in my family of heart problems. During the time I was taking Celebrex, I was under constant medical care, undergoing gall bladder surgery, umbilical repair surgery, kidney stone surgery, and a prostate "resection" as I recall they named it. Point is, NO indication of earlier heart problems were apparent to anyone.
I feel that Celebrex was the cause of my heart attack, and have retained an attorney to represent me in dealings with Pfizer. With a little searching, it seems obvious that Pfizer knew of these risks even before I started taking the medication.

My brother who just died of a heart attack had much in common with you...no heart problems, no family history of it, ulcer problems, celebrex for two years.

I find it very interesting that the trials and testing of this drug, seems to involve a chosen group of people, and some take a placebo with some on Celebrex, for a short period of time.
Wouldn't it be interesting and much more meaningful to make some real world tests, check out how many on longer term usage have died, and from what. Not as scientific I suppose, but certainly something that should be considered and monitored by the FDA at least. To an extreme degree of course, a drug could work perfectly well for a year in tests, then kill everyone taking it in the second year. The manufacturers are not going to complain as it is very profitable, the dead people are not reporting any adverse effects, and the FDA just don't care. WOW!

my brother died on may 30, 2005 (we buried him 6/4/05) while at work as a crane operator in mobile, alabama. He had taken celebrex and i am not sure of the vioxx. he had arthritis in his hip and was taking it for that. 2- days before memorial day around 3 AM HE PASSED WHILE WORKIN IN THE CRANE. He was a very "dear brother" to me and i want to make sure celebrex did not cause his demise.

My husband just passed away on Weds, Nov 2, 2005 at the age of 36 of a massive cardiac arrest
He had been on Celebrex since 2002 due to joint problems because of MS. I had asked his physician if this was still safe when all the reports came out and was assured that it was. Unfortunately he was wrong! He had no history of cardiac problems, no history of it in his family and besides the MS was healthy. He had gone down to Georgia to be with his mother while he and I worked a few things out. He was suppose to return home next week and we were suppose to try again. I had just talked to him that afternoon and never got the chance to say goodbye. His last words to me were "I'll call you tonight to tuck you into bed. I love you Baby" That was the last time I got to hear his voice. I am convinced that the Celebrex is what caused the cardiac arrest. He leaves behind me, his 7 year old daughter and three stepchildren all of us asking why him and why now.
