Vioxx & Celebrex

Hello

To me, there's no doubt that Vioxx, Celebrex, and Bextra have been linked to increased cardiovascular events such as heart attacks, strokes, and blood clots.  Many former users of these drugs are finding it difficult to find alternatives that are equally as effective though.  Interestingly, many health experts say that the benefits of this class of drug (COX-2 inhibitors) don't outweigh the risks.  In other words, when looking at studies they found that this class of drug did not impart superior pain relief over safer alternative pain medications.  Nevertheless, there are chronic pain sufferers that feel they recieve superior pain relief with COX-2 inhibitors.  Some may choose to stay on a COX-2 inhibitor.  The FDA has said that Celebrex appears to be safest of COX-2 inhibitors as it has been associated with the fewest number of cardiovascular events.  This may be an option for some after they've discussed the risks and benefits with their doctor.

This website also talks about other alternatives to COX-2 inhibitors.
