Need info to help my addict Girlfriend....

My GF has a prescription drug problem so to help her help herself I do lots of research & support her fighting her demons the best I can,

I need some information that is not given on the generic drug websites that deal with people who take medications as directed, addicts don't follow the directions of dosage,

The story is for 6-8 years my GF has been fighting her addictions to the opiates,
She was mostly taking vicodin and or Percocet, she would get them from ER's.
She would take, if she had them upwards of 15-30 pills a day,
Some times she would crush and snort them,

Now things changed and for a couple weeks the drug shes on is time release oxycontin, she started by crushing and snorting them but she switched to just swallowing them, she has been in somewhat of a stupor for the last 5-7 days, very bad the last couple,  she told me she hasn't used in two days however she is still groggy, sleepy all day at work, it's very hard for her to wake up and get out of bed, she feels "flu like"
He ankles, fingers and face especially under eyes are puffy and swollen, joints ache,
She told me this morning she feels out of it all, in slow motion, somewhat disoriented and dizzy, her coordination is off, runs into things, she is dreamy and not able to concentrate well, she slept 10 hours last night but just wants to go back to sleep and it's hard for her to stay awake.

I do believe it's been two days since she has used however, she told me this morning that she ate about 20 40 MG oxycontin in a 3 day period.

As far as doctor perscribed, I need to include that her doctor upper her Paxil to 40 MG a day, to see if Paxil and Oxycontin don't mix well.

The question are, does the above symptoms sound right for this type of abuse of the drug, and how long will it last, stay in her system,  it seems to be getting worse not better, will it do permanent damage?

She is feeling so tired, sleepy & rotten at work, she is saying that using would make her feel better, I tell her in the long run it will make her feel far worse, she has her demons yelling loud today, weekends are the worse,
I am there for her the best I can be.

Please give me some info on this all,
Many thanks,
P.

Re: Need info to help my addict Girlfriend....

It does sound like she is having withdrawal syptems to me. Oxy is an extremely dangerous drug and to get off it help is needed such as the duragesic patch or other options like http://www.suboxone.com/Suboxone/ luckily she has not been taking it to long. The addiction and withdrawals are the same as heroin. And oxy does effect the mind immensely and when hooked very few will ever ask for help or admit there is even a problem. She needs to sit down with you and read some of the things written here so she can have the info also and you both can see the signs of whats happening.

I took Oxy Contin and Morphine Sulf and Nurontin for five years, my family knew it had changed my dramatically, but I did not! I don’t exactly recall the few weeks that lead up to me taking a months worth of these meds at once (or even much of the five years I was taking them) but I was found by a cleaning maid, far away from home, dead when paramedics came, in a hotel room. Kept alive till hospital artificially and was in coma a month. My reality was greatly effected while on these drugs, though I would not admit it (I am not even sure I knew it myself to admit it?)

You didn’t mention what medical condition she has that requires these drugs?

Also there is a much more used site about Pain/drugs/medical conditions you should look at  (If she has spinal injuries as I do follow the links at the bottom or just explore to find the appropriate area

New site http://brain.hastypastry.net/forums/
Archived stuff http://neuro-mancer.mgh.harvard.edu/cgi-bin/Ultimate.cgi
Go to SPACIFIC Conditions and to Spinal Disorders

I would not want anyone else or there loved ones to go through this. Please fell free to email me if you like DesertRider1959@aol.com  Good Luck
