Accutane, intended indicated for the treatment of severe, recalcitrant, nodular acne, has been linked with several serious side effects, including serious birth defects and suicide. Accutane, or Isotretinoin, is a retinoid that is related to retinoic acid and retinol, or Vitamin A. Isotretinoin inhibits sebaceous gland function and keratinization. Accutane treatment for 15 to 20 weeks results in complete and prolonged remission of acne is most patients. Sometimes, a second course of treatment is needed.

In addition to birth defects and suicide, Parker Waichman Alonso Mark LLP is investigating Accutane cases involving inflammatory bowel disease, crohn’s disease, colitis, loss of vision, loss of hearing and growth disc problems. If you or a loved one has been injured by Accuntane please complete the case inquiry form on the right side of this page for a free evaluation.

RE: Please - I am Seeking information for a 14 year old Pan

To a Friend I have Not Yet Met:

I am emailing this request in a desperate attempt to find anyone with knowledge or experience with a similar medical condition.  My 14 year old niece is critically ill with Pancreatitis; most likely caused by taking the acne drug “Accutane.”  I feel certain that she is not the first adolescent to experience this horrific side effect.  I remain hopeful that someone somewhere may be able to shed some light on our darkness.  She is experiencing every uncommon (1 -2 % chance) side effect disclosed!    I am praying that this email will fall into the hands of that one person in the world that can provide that important piece of information that will ultimately lead to Samantha’s full recovery.

Please . . . . . if you have any knowledge or information that you think may even slightly help this child, please email or call me. If you are a Medical Physician and prefer to speak directly to Samantha doctors, please call 925-735-3120 or email mike@hyles.com and I will get you a direct telephone number.

Details

We attended my niece’s 8th grade graduation ceremonies on June 18, 2005 where she was awarded top of her class in every subject as well as a 4.0 grade point average. Samantha is scheduled to start High School next month, August 2005 and has her sights set on either UC Berkeley or Stanford.

Ten days after graduation (June 28th)   Samantha doubled over in excruciating pain and began vomiting. Her mother rushed her to Kaiser Hospital in California.  After several test, the doctors stated that she had acute pancreatitis; most likely caused from taking the prescribed drug Accutane.  Samantha was then transferred by ambulance to Kaiser in Santa Clara where she had been hospitalized for over 2.5 weeks undergoing test. She was released from the Hospital on Monday July 18 however, Friday July 23, 2005 she had returned to the emergency room; again vomiting and above average pain in her abdomen. She was then returned by ambulance to the Kaiser Facility in Santa Clara.  I have attached some of the communications regarding her condition which transpired between my brother and me which may help with details regarding her condition.
