Accutane, intended indicated for the treatment of severe, recalcitrant, nodular acne, has been linked with several serious side effects, including serious birth defects and suicide. Accutane, or Isotretinoin, is a retinoid that is related to retinoic acid and retinol, or Vitamin A. Isotretinoin inhibits sebaceous gland function and keratinization. Accutane treatment for 15 to 20 weeks results in complete and prolonged remission of acne is most patients. Sometimes, a second course of treatment is needed.

In addition to birth defects and suicide, Parker Waichman Alonso Mark LLP is investigating Accutane cases involving inflammatory bowel disease, crohn’s disease, colitis, loss of vision, loss of hearing and growth disc problems. If you or a loved one has been injured by Accuntane please complete the case inquiry form on the right side of this page for a free evaluation.

Long Time side effects

I am writing this message in a desperate attempt to find people who might be experiencing long term side effects from Accutane. I am just paying the consequences of taking this medicine and I would love to hear from others.

I have taken Accutane very successfully twice in my life, 1999 and 2004. I must say that those were the happiest times of my life because my skin never looked better, and it had no psychological effects on me whatsoever. The second time though, I had to stop after the 3rd month because my bones were aching badly.  For the last few years I have started to have different bone abnormalities: lower spine severe pain, joints (neck and ankles) and ribs.  Now, in March 2008 an x-ray of my lower back is showing severe bone demineralization and it's shooting spasms down my leg and causing severe numbness and pain in  the lower part of my left leg, from my knee all the way down to my toes. I am being sent to an MRI and a density bone test.   In addition to that, my gums have been bleeding for years now without knowing the reason for it, and I have lately (last year or so) developed and unusual and frequent bowel movement, without suffering from any kind stomach problem.

Doctors (my general practitioner, dermatologist and back surgeon) and now putting 2 and 2 together, after I have told them that I have taken accutane twice in the past.

This is needless to say extremely scary stuff and the worst is to be told by doctors and specialists that they don't know what could actually be done to stop the increasing pain and discomfort "possibly" caused by Acctuane.   While I realize that it's still a bit pre-mature to blame accutane entirely for it, it all seems to indicate that it could definitively be the reason for all this pain and changes that my body is going through.  I have not turned 40 yet.
