Accutane, intended indicated for the treatment of severe, recalcitrant, nodular acne, has been linked with several serious side effects, including serious birth defects and suicide. Accutane, or Isotretinoin, is a retinoid that is related to retinoic acid and retinol, or Vitamin A. Isotretinoin inhibits sebaceous gland function and keratinization. Accutane treatment for 15 to 20 weeks results in complete and prolonged remission of acne is most patients. Sometimes, a second course of treatment is needed.

In addition to birth defects and suicide, Parker Waichman Alonso Mark LLP is investigating Accutane cases involving inflammatory bowel disease, crohn’s disease, colitis, loss of vision, loss of hearing and growth disc problems. If you or a loved one has been injured by Accuntane please complete the case inquiry form on the right side of this page for a free evaluation.

Inflammatory bowel disease & Accutane

Took Accutane in 2006-7 for persistent cystic acne, came off after becoming very depressed and the acne had cleared up a bit. I have since developed inflammatory bowel disease., which my doctor diagnosed earlier this year. I now realize it may have been caused by Accutane. has anyone else suffered from thus? I'm trying to find others who have been through the same thing.

It can mess up your digestive system in general I've heard so anyone who got pancreatitis, ulcerative colitis, or crohn's disease please speak up as it MUST be related.

Re: Inflammatory bowel disease & Accutane

Hi Nadia, I took it for a year in the 90s and have recently been diagnosed with Crohns. I've only jsut worked out that it could be because of theAccutane and I am so mad that they don't publicise this - they must know! I'm waiting for some more test results and then I am definitely going to file once it's all confirmed. I've been doing some research and Roche (the manufacturer) has lost tons of Accutane cases already so we have a pretty good chance of being successful. Of course it's no guarantee but might as well try!

Good luck to you! Please write back with your progress

Re: Inflammatory bowel disease & Accutane

I took Accutane 2 times as a teenager & have had IBS ever since & in the past 2 years have started to develop Gallbladder problems.  Plus my son was born with brain damage (after being off of Accutane the safe amount of time to get pregnant) and then my daughter was born with Autism 10 years later. Accutane is a horrible drug. If it helps at all I started Accupuncture recently, and it took me about 5-6 sessions before I noticed anything but my Gallbladder problems have stopped & my IBS flare ups are pretty much gone! It stinks that it isn't covered by insurance & sessions cost $65.00 each but I have never felt better!!!! I highly recommend this alternative to drugs & suffering through. Good luck to you both!
