time frame?

Anyone have an idea of how long a case like ours will be tied up in the court system? Is there any chance for a settlement agreement with the vaccine companies?

Re: time frame?

This is going to be a long haul.  We're in an uphill political battle against very connected and very wealthy pharmaceutical companies.  So this is going to take a while but I think it will be worth the wait in the end.  The proceedings that are going on in the United States Court of Federal Claims through the NVICP (National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program) have a timeline for the hearing on general causation (whether Thimerosal and the multiple childhood vaccinations cause autism or autism-like symptoms).  This hearing is supposed to be coming up by the end of this year and they expect the issue to be resolved, at least in the Court of Claims, by next July (2004).  Once that is completed we will be free to move on from there (either remain in the Court of Claims or withdraw and continue in local state or federal court).  But before that, we are looking for the law to change to extend the Statute of Limitations in the NVICP from 3 years.  There are a few bills on the table now.  So writing letters to your local congressmen and senators is more important now than ever.

We are in this thing for the long haul and are working hard to get these children what they deserve.

Re: time frame?

Thanks Adena! You guys are always so friendly and always so good about returning calls. I appreciate your candor!

I figured this would take quite a while because I am sure the Vaccine companies will fight tooth and nail to keep from accepting responsibility. Unfortunately they seem to think more of the almighty dollar than they do our children!
