Ford Excursion tire recall 2/26/04

I've had 4 tire failures with these now recalled tires. The last was july 03. Tire damaged truck for $1500, body damage. Dealership service manager was a jerk. But we did require him to do an inspection, and write us a letter stating they didn't have a problem with the vehicle. We changed the tires to Michlin E rated and repaired the truck at out expense. The dealership, in Jackson MS, offered not to charge us for their safety inspection, like they really went out of their way. Now that this recall has started, 5 deaths, several crashes, they might have a different attitude. We've documented most everything, pics, letters, receipts, old tires, even contacted a local lawyer, but haven't had any success. Maybe this admission that diesel excursions need "E" rated, not "D"rated tires will help. Ford saved a few dollars per Excursion by using a cheaper tire, hopefully they will end up giving back these savings, and more.

Re: Ford Excursion tire recall 2/26/04

I too have had problems with the Steeltex tires..over $1500 worth of damage to a new vehicle (I had bought it with 4,000 miles on it in Feb. 2001 and the tire blew on me, June 2002).  I had exactly 35,001 miles on the truck at the time.  I had just had my tires rotated 3 days/1500 miles prior (I was on a trip from Alabama to California).   I had taken the truck to Ford prior to the trip for an oil change and tire rotation and my Ford guy didnt like the looks of the tires and sent me to Firestone to have them looked at. The guy looks at them and said that it looked like I had run against a curb?????? and told me they were fine and safe to drive on!!!!!  I sent the tire to Firestone and they said I was overloaded and underinflated???????  I do not have the tires that are recalled..the A/T (after calling Firestone last week and was told they WERE recalled????)tires are apparently the only one's being recalled? Why not all the others as well if they were having so many problems and complaints? Wouldn't it be better to go ahead and deal with the headacheand save what face they have left NOW instead of having to do yet another recall on Steeltex?

Re: Ford Excursion tire recall 2/26/04

My wife had tread seperation with the tires at 70 mph while crossing an interstate river bridge.  She ran over road marker and damaged the wheel well.  Only by the Grace of God was she able to control the vehicle to a stop.  I drive Little Rock to Dallas and return almost every week with the vehicle.  I thought it was safer for her to use my vehicle for her quick trip out of town with her girlfriend.  By her description of the violent bahavior of the Excursion at 70 mph during the tire seperation, it is absolutely amazing that anyone could have brought the vehicle to a controlled stop.

Firestone wanted me to send them the tires at my expense so they could determine if there was fault with the tire.  They said they'd notify me by return mail of their determination.  I thought, how stupid do they think I am?  I kept the tires.  There is clealy and area of non-bonding with the tread.  I expect a professional engineering analysis will show the bonding problem with these tires.

Re: Ford Excursion tire recall 2/26/04

I've had four Steel Tex Blow outs before their "Warranted" mileage was up.  It damaged the rear of my F350.  They were all manufactured in Canada and the sister tire (Load range D) was recalled, but not the "E".   California Attorney Lisoni is handling my case.  There is no doubt that the tires are defective, but after the Wilderness suit, it's believed that Firestone will fight just about everything, even though their inside/former employees have came forward and may have some SURPRISES in court for Firestone.

Re: Ford Excursion tire recall 2/26/04

I was traveling to work when my ford ranger flip over and landed on it's nose. When i was able to exit the vehicle I noticed that the driver side tire was flat.My tires was about six months old, the destination a/t. I wanted to know was these tires recalled by ford. Also the air bag did not deploy, so far I have not been able to obtain an attorney to assist me, even though I received serious injury to my neck and am now receiving workers comp. Do any one know of an attorney who might be interested.
