On April 24th 2004 my 19 yo son was killed in a head-on collision. I could go on and on about the nightmare we are going through... his death, the insurance, the attorneys, etc... but that is my own personal hell... I need to bring something important to the table...
The man who killed my son and injured his friends should not have been driving. He had enough tickets to have had his license suspended, but he also had enough money to have an attorney get his tickets reduced to improper equipment, no penalty, no points....
In NC... at least on the West side, as long as you have the $75 for the attorney and the money for the court costs you will never have a ticket on your record... no matter how many you receive.
The trooper who was first on the scene at my son's accident told me this story... he responded to another 19 yo's accident... he recognized him from his license. Sure enough, when he ran his DMV record, he had given him a ticket 6 mos before... and during that time 2 other tickets had been issued... all reduced to improper equipment, from excessive speeding, reckless driving... Three times our court system had to opportunity to save this child's life, three times it didn't care...
We need to change this... please respond if you or someone you know has had a similar experience, in NC or any other State. I want my wonderful son's 19 years to count for something...
